Going Green

After reading about the vitamix craze on so many blogs lately, I have been sold on more than one occasion. What better way to take in more fruits and veggies? Not wanting to blow 500 bucks on a kitchen toy, Scott and I have been impatiently waiting for Christmas. Well my friends Santa has arrived early. And wow it's even far better than I ever could have imagined!

Let me preface this with... YES many of these recipes SOUND and LOOK gross. And I may never get over the green color~but these smoothies are rockstar. I'd also like to mention that I'm not a vegan.... I'm just an athlete who wants to eat a cleaner diet and eliminate processed foods. With that said here are my top 3 new favorites:
1. Going Green Smoothie
1/2 cup water
1 cup grapes
1/2 cup pineapple
1/2 banana
2 cups spinach
1/2 cup ice
2. Sweet Greens Smoothie
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup cucumber
1 cup spinach

Anyway.... Hope you are ready for Christmas!

Flex sure is:

  1. Awesome! I love mine. I have a HUGE green smoothie at least 1x a day. And you're right... You never get over the green (or brownish) color. But if you add beets then it's not green!

  4. First off, Flex is ridiculously cute!

Second, I plan on adding green smoothies to my diet as a breakfsst meal once Santa makes a stop by my place this weekend. I also decided to let Santa put up the funds. haha

I will certainly be making note of those recipes. I'll get back to you on my own preferences and any others I come up with.

  6. All of those sound FAB! Can't wait to try them out! Maggs is totally spot on with the beets - it turns the odd green/brown color to a wonderful 'raspberry' color :)

  11. I've never really gotten the whole vitamix thing. I like a smoothie now and then, but like food with texture so I can't see myself using it enough to justify the cost.

Have you seen anyone doing cool sauces or soups in the vitamix? Seems like everyone just uses it for smoothies, but maybe that is just me.

  12. I actually love green smoothies too. I always found mine weren't so much green but a nasty grayish color =). Even my husband would drink them!

    Your dog is SOOOOOOOOO cute!

  14. Woo hoo! So excited for you that you got the Vitamix! That thing is amazing and I probably use it at least 2-3 times per day! My favorite recipe that I try to drink daily is "Eat Your Greens Smoothie" 5 oz baby spinach, 2 cups frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup soy milk, 1/2 cup pomegranate juice, 1 Tbsp flax seed, 1 banana - it is soooo good and sooo healthy!

  15. Oh i want a Vitmix so badly but considering that about 8 mos out of the year anything icey cold sounds TOO COLD I cant justify it! But in the summer month(s) I would love it!
    Flex is too funny:)

  17. Thanks so much for sharing the recipes! I've gotten into the green smoothie thing recently and agree they are awesome, even though they look a little weird.

This has been my go-to recipe:
    1 cup vanilla almond milk
1 cup fat-free vanilla or french vanilla yogurt
1 cup frozen berries (I buy a blend of raspberries, blueberries, blackberries & cherries from Trader Joe's)
    2 cups spinach
