New Ventures

The last couple weeks have brought about a few pretty big changes in my life. After my poor run performance at the NOLA 70.3, I officially decided to hire a new coach. Given my extensive running history and profession, sometimes I feel like I should be able to do this single handedly. Experience however, has proven otherwise. I've found that it's far more beneficial to have that outside, objective person. While the program and coaching I used in the past was reliable and kept me injury free, it wasn't enough to make me fast. Swimming, biking, and running long slow distance will not make you fast. Yes- you will be able to finish the race but you will race the way you train. To take it to the next level, you ultimately must train the way you race. LSD will not cut it. Not for me.

For the rest of the year, I'm going to be training under my good friend Kim. With Kim's breakthrough performances over the past year, I think she has what it takes to really get me to the level I want to be at. Stay tuned!

And for the other big change...
It's official Heidi is a Doctor of Physical Therapy! So excited to start this new journey... Now if I can just pass those boards :)

Final Countdown

My longest week of NOLA 70.3 training is done! You know what that means? It's taper time my friends!
(View my my ride last week)

Although I'm not a huge fan of the taper, the much needed extra time will be devoted to my final thesis/research project for physical therapy school. I think I'd rather be training.

In between training, scrambling to finish my 50 plus page paper, studying for my boards, job searching, and oh yes my full time clinical I've managed to squeeze in one of these:

A nap with the best napping buddy ever....

And have rewarded myself with some sick new gear.... I think Chloe got me hooked.

Regardless I'm on the final stretch. I will be back soon my friends! The countdown begins:

5 weeks until I finish my Doctorate of Physical Therapy!

3 weeks until the New Orleans 70.3

2 weeks left of my year long clinical affiliation

1 week until my thesis is due

Maybe I should stop procrastinating :) Have a great week everyone.

Changes

I know I've been quite absent over the last week in the blogging world....I've been dealing with some clinical problems. The good news is that I've made the appropriate changes and hope that things will get better over the next couple months. More to come on that later.

But I've made some other changes:
Most of you have already seen... I was SOOO over having the same look for the past 5 years and decided to do some chopping! And I want to wear cute pigtails when I race like Julia :)

On the training front, NOLA 70.3 and Mardi Gras Half training begins next week. I've started to get a few more workouts in here in there ~working my swim back up to 3000m and running up to 10 miles. Before I buckle down officially, I'm hoping to squeeze in some off season snowboarding, drink lots more wine, catch up with Pennsylvania friends, and to do a few Cathedral Climbs at the University of Pittsburgh.

Who ever thought climbing stairs would be so fun? Anyway Heidi is "burgh" bound again. Yay for a white Christmas!
