Rouge Orleans RR

With Mardi Gras and the Rouge Orleans Ultra Marathon relay, I've been burnt out BIG time this week. With that said, I'll leave you with a quick recap of the Rouge Orleans Ultra Relay RR. This race started 1 pm Saturday in Baton Rouge and continued until 8 am Sunday in New Orleans. 126.2 miles total. My team consisted of mostly pilots from my hubby's job.

I got roped into this relay last minute and to be honest wasn't too excited going into it. It was an interesting experience to say the least and I will say that I have a new found respect for you crazy ultra marathoners. I ran 5 legs that totaled around 25 miles. I was pleased with most of my splits despite severe DOMS and sleep deprivation.

I probably took the relay a little too seriously. In fact, I may have had an out burst or two when teammates over estimated how long my legs would take and weren't at the exchange on time. Oops. And one of people I yelled at may have been my husbands boss. Double oops. I'll blame the sleep deprivation on that.

The video sums it up pretty well:

Once I threw my sour attitude and overly competitive spirit out the window, I ended up having a great time with the guys and was glad to experience this aspect of running. Despite our added "transition times", we still won the military division. Yay! I highly recommend it to anyone considering an ultra relay. It's nice to get the team aspect back every once in awhile :)

  4. I love it! I could totally see you getting crazy on someone not running the pre-set pace for their leg. Glad you ended up chillin out and having a great time. Gotta have some races like that where you just run for the hell of it and throw the pace out the window. Gotta go watch your video now ...

  11. Hehehe.. yelling at your hubby's boss? hehehehe. I can relate to getting upset when things don't go right. Especially if the adrenalin is rushing.
