Red Dress Run

This past weekend was the Red Dress Run in New Orleans which is not only a hashing run but a huge fundraiser for the city. My sister was luckily in town to participate in the hashing. This being my first "hash" event I had no idea what to expect. I wasn't sure how the whole combination of running and consuming alcohol would work. With Ironman training, I rarely drink and classify myself as an extreme lightweight.
The run started around noon near the French Quarter. Self conscious about our silly red dresses, my sister, husband, and I were a little reluctant to step outside and take the street car down to the Quarter. As we neared the street car stop and glanced at the arriving car, it was filled with a red every where. Any sense of embarrassment disappeared instantly as there were men not only in red dresses but other far worse extremes.
We arrived at the event right on time with one drink in hand. We stopped at a place called Port of Call and picked up what's called a Monsoon on the way. (A definite must if you ever visit). But note to self: don't drink to fast.... otherwise you might end up like this:
All 6000 hashers were corralled into a local park given a few beers and then sent on our way through an out and back course down and back up Bourbon St. Here are Scott and Ang holding the map in case we lost our way. This probably the only running I did. (All 50 feet of it....)We stopped for many photo ops along the way... It was hot-hot-hot. Between requests for photo ops with several gay men, Scott stopped to cool off in a sprinkler.
We took a detour and did a photo op in Jackson Square. We thought it would be funny to play-mess-with the tourists. After a few strange glances, we quickly got back on our track. It was an extremely fun and exciting event and I highly recommend it if you ever around New Orleans this time of year. I will say though, I did think there would be a little more running....

Maybe next time! Have a great week everyone :)
