Mid season lul

So my friends, 1 out of 2 of my A races for the season is through .....so I ask myself now what?

I'm sure everyone is gearing up the the quickly approaching tri season, but I find myself in sort of a mid-season lul. With an early 70.3 under my belt and the hot summers in the south, my next triathlon isn't until July. What's a girl to do with herself? I officially start Ironman training June 21st and don't want to burn out too quickly. BUT I don't want to lose my fitness that I've worked so hard for the last 5 months. As weird as it sounds, I'm sort of at a loss as to what I need to do until then? I know this is where a coach would come in handy but I'm not sure I can afford to pay one all season long.

I'm thinking swim, bike, run and lift all twice a week. (one long workout and one speed).

Lifting: core, back extensor exercises, big muscle groups, rotater cuff for the shoudler....

Then throw in a 5k here or there for fun...

Is that slacking too much?

Anyway hope everyone is having a great week. Help me restore my sanity cuz I'm starting to feel like a big slacker!

  3. geez you're so lazy! get off your ass already.
    kidding. obviously.
be ahppy with your "maintain" time.
I use it for doing things around the house that will get completely overlooked when IM training is in full swing.

  5. I am in the same freaking boat. At least you have another race in July...I don't have anything until IMFL! I'm sure I'll throw a few races between now and then....but still, I need short term goals!! Ahh!! A glass of wine is in store...

  6. Good idea to work on those stabilizers that will be working so hard as you head into IM Training. Hit the hip/pelvic stabe stuff too and as you said, the scap stuff ( SA and lower trap anyone?personal issues i know!)
I Would say you are doin the right thing. You want to be fresh and ideally a bit undertrained going into IM training.
    Send me some heat, ok?

  7. Hi Girlie, Getting caught up here. Sorry your 70.3 didn't go as planned.

Here's the advice I got recently from SSB about time off: "the most important thing you CAN do is take time off." She recommended no more than 30 minutes a day for the week following the 70.3, then 45 minutes a day the next week. Then slowly start ramping up for the IM training.

  12. i don't think your plan qualifies you for slacker status. i think full body weights/abs twice a week is PERFECT. I'd just have fun not having to follow anykind of strict training plan and maintain a solid base. Maybe 2 swims a week, a fast shorter run, a medium to long run and a brick. 3-4 days of biking. I look forward to having time that is unstructured but not for too long. I'm betting you will find a few races in between to satisy your race hunger...despite the crazy heat.
