Year in Review

I'm a little late but~ Happy New Year! Dont' worry!!!! I promise I won't bore you with a mile-long laundry list of new years resolutions nor will I tell you 100 reasons why 2009 was so great. In fact... I'm going to keep it simple and tell you a simple story of how 2009 changed my life for ever. And for those that have already heard this story a time or two, this is the last time I PROMISE!

Here goes~

While visiting my sister in Salt Lake City last March, I was in a severe snowboarding accident. After being dragged down the mountain, x-rays revealed three pelvic ring fractures that necessitated emergency internal fixation. (which= lots of places and screws) Returning to the sport of triathlon became a secondary thought, as doctors questioned whether I would walk normally again.

Despite the bleak outlook, deep down I knew that I someday would return to my love of swimming, biking, and running.
With the support of my friends, family, and doctors six-shorts months later I made the biggest come back of my life! On September 19th 2009, I won my first Olympic distance triathlon and set a personal record (PR). Two-weeks later, I broke my lifetime 5k PR. I’m hoping my hard work pays off in 2010, as I’ve signed up for my first full Ironman distance triathlon.

While both my life and pelvis will never be the same, I hope to spread my message to my patients, students, fellow triathletes. We all fall sometimes, but the great ones get back up. Although I definitely will not lie and say it’s easy…Cheers to rocking it in 2010!
